PC Games to Look Forward to in 2014

2013 was a massive year for gaming fans and 2014 is shaping up to be even more impressive. Some of the biggest games released in 2013 include Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0: A Realm Reborn (the much anticipated ‘fix’ of XIV after its disastrous release in 2010), Grand Theft Auto 5, easily one of the most looked forward to releases of the year, The Last of Us, a post-apocalyptic zombie shooter game, and Metro: Last Light, another post-apocalyptic shooter game set in a world of poisonous air and mutants.

So what’s on the way in 2014? Plenty by the looks of things, so gamers certainly won’t be disappointed with what’s on the way over the next 12 months for PC and gaming consoles. Here’s a quick look at four of the most eagerly anticipated PC games for 2014, though if these aren’t to your liking which is unlikely, there are plenty of others on the way.

1. Tom Clancy’s The Division

Already garnering rave reviews, Tom Clancy’s The Division is easily one of the most eagerly anticipated games of 2014. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, this is a game that borders on the ‘limitless’, by which is meant gamers needn’t worry about failing to get their money’s worth as there’s plenty of game play awaiting them here for fans of online multiplayer third-person tactical shooter action.

2. Titanfall

Developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (possibly), this is a first person shooter game that incorporates a wealth of features that are sure to have gaming enthusiasts riveted. Respawn has described the game as bringing “scale, verticality, and story” and by the looks of reviews and trailers, PC gaming fans are sure to be lining up to be the first to try their hand at playing these mech-style Titans and their pilots.

3. South Park: The Stick of Truth

Originally due for release in 2013, the latest South Park game has been put on hold until 2014. Bringing Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s somewhat unique brand of humour back to the gaming world, The Stick of Truth is expected to be a huge success, and has already garnered rave reviews by reviewers. As you can expect, this is a game for mature gamers, so if you’re easily offended, or have a problem with using ‘weapons of legend’ to overwhelm hippies, underpants gnomes and other undesirable forces of evil, this probably isn’t the game for you.

4. Elite Dangerous

The fourth game in the Elite video game series, Elite Dangerous is a space trading combat simulator due to be released in March 2014. Fans of the previous three Elite video games will not be disappointed with what’s awaiting them here, and gamers are able choose how much or how little they interact with other players, from playing completely offline to something very similar to an MMO. This, the latest instalment, takes place 50 years after the events of Frontier: First Encounters, and there are plenty of threats to humanity for players to contend with.

As PC gamers know well, PC games are generally only as good as the PC you’re playing them on, so it will come as no surprise that many serious gamers are already upgrading their PCs in readiness for 2014. Upgrading could consist of buying an entirely new PC from iCubes, upgrading with new sound and graphics cards, or adding more RAM for extra oomph, something you’ll want to have plenty of in readiness for these exciting new titles and many more that are due to hit stores in 2014.
